A community-based tourism framework for Nunavut's Territorial Parks

In response to the obligations outlined in the treaty between the Nunavummiut (the people of Nunavut) and the Government of Canada, we were engaged to develop a framework to facilitate the development of community-based tourism in the hamlets that lie adjacent to the Territory's territorial parks.

This work involved creating a model that incorporated the roles of the territory-wide Parks Management Councils with their local community counterparts and the ongoing management and governance structure of the individual hamlets. We have defined the roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders and the personnel identified as necessary to implement and maintain this structure.

Finally we have created a comprehensive workbook that guides the individual communities step-by-step through the implementation process.

A fascinating and challenging project.
