The Orkney Islands lie just six miles off the north coast of the UK mainland and has an astonishingly rich archaeological heritage which draws visitors from all round the world. The day-visitor market (including cruise liners) has burgeoned in recent years, while the traditional multi-day vacation market has become ever more competitive.

We led the development of Destination Orkney, a new destination marketing and management organisation tackling the twin challenges of promoting the islands and managing volume tourism in a responsible and sustainable way.  

We created a multi-agency, partnership-based model for destination management. The partnership met for the first time in June 2018, a CEO has been engaged and we wish the new organisation well.
